Amye Joseph
In September of this year, the Refuge family lost one of our most loved members, Amye Joseph. She served on the Board of Directors of Refuge for several years as Secretary and went on many, many mission trips to Guatemala.
Amye suffered from a chronic illness for which she underwent 19 surgeries over the last few years. Trips to Guatemala were always a physical challenge for her, but you would never know it. She worked as hard as any one person on any trip. Her loving and giving spirit were contagious to any and all who knew her.
Amye was a generous person, always putting others’ needs before her own. Albert Einstein said something along the lines that the only life worth living is a life lived for others and if there was anyone who exemplified this, it was Amye.
One of our volunteers pointed out that while others were concerned about getting all of their personal items packed, Amye worried about not getting the toothbrushes she had collected or the candy she had for the children in her suitcases. Always putting others first.
Amye had a passion for the Refuge work and for life. While we mourn our loss, we also celebrate the selfless life that Amye lived. We should all follow in her footsteps.
